Garden Activities - Feeding, New Bulbs

New Plantings 

Planted all 35 in this pack of Anemones (not the sea kind...) bulbs. I placed them in twos for the most part, since I bought them on sale months ago. Assuming they were already old when they were placed on sale, I'm not sure how many of them are still viable. I planted them in a square cross shape in the Wall Plot, taking extras and putting them in the corners. The Wall Plot is the raised bed garden that is up against the brick wall, and used to have the cucumbers. I also planted some in our second hanging basket, three sets of two bulbs. I also planted some in the Corner Plot in the shadiest spot I could find.

 

I also planted one of these Hosta plants in the shadiest part that I know we have. In the corner spot of our patio that we have traditionally been using a semi-compost area where we dump clippings and weeds. There is a small plantain tree growing in the far corner of that, and the roof-gutter drain also empties in tho this area. But I'm excited to see if this plant can cut it, since it says it can handle a lot of shade and very little care.

Regular activities and notes

WATERING:

I purchased a new hose today, because the Pocket Hose we've had for no more than two years has a puncture leak in it. How?? I don't know... But, all the outdoor plants were quite thirsty, so the new hose had to be purchased - and used - today. I performed a heavy watering, hitting most planters/pots twice.

FERTILIZING: 

I also fed every pot/planter with a generous sprinkling of Jobe's Organic Veggie fertilizer, even if they weren't veggies. I watered everything again after fertilization.

Notes:

The carrots pretty clearly prefer the corner that is up against the brick and away from wooden fence. This is the corner that I imagine gets the most sunlight every day. Two or three of the plants have leafy stalks that stick straight up and support their own weight.

Strawberries looked kind of sickly today. They probably need new soil this season.

There is still only one lettuce plant that seems to have grown.

The grape seems to be holding up alright after the freeze, but no new leaves yet. The pothos that was in there with it died back to almost 3" long from the freeze.

Roses look good. Not flowering now, but they had a good bloom a few weeks ago. All the leaves and stems look nice and green/red and strong.
